Chem Resistance grade

Polycarbonate resin possesses excellent properties such as heat resistance, flame retardancy, and impact resistance. However, in terms of chemical resistance, it may not always be sufficient depending on the type of chemicals involved. On the other hand, polyester resins such as polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) are crystalline resins that exhibit superior chemical resistance compared to polycarbonate. However, polyester resins alone have a low glass transition temperature and tend to shrink after molding, making them difficult to process.

By alloying polycarbonate resin with polyester resins, it is possible to achieve a balance of chemical resistance and moldability, which is difficult to achieve with either resin alone. At Sumika Polycarbonate, we have introduced the CR Series, a grade of polycarbonate with improved chemical resistance. Additionally, we offer glass-reinforced grades for enhanced strength and durability.

This alloying approach allows for a combination of the best characteristics of both materials, addressing limitations in chemical resistance and processing challenges.
